Officers responded to a domestic disturbance at 1228 E. Fifth St. at about 2:20 a.m., where they found Steven Douglas Armenta holding down a female on the front porch, according to an arrest affidavit by officer Glenn Bustos.

When Armenta saw the police, he let the woman get up. Police said the woman was hysterical and gasping for breath.

She said Armenta was hovering over her and when she tried to leave to go outside and get some air, Armenta grabbed her by the face and throat. She said she started screaming at Armenta to let her breathe.

The victim said she was able to get outside to the patio but Armenta followed her and tried to get her back into the house.

The woman said Armenta then threw her down to the ground and grabbed her by the neck and face telling her, "I’m going to kill you if you don’t stop screaming."

The victim said despite her pleas to him to let her breathe, she said Armenta kept his hold on her until police arrived.
