Kavi Raz’s socially pointed drama “The Gold Bracelet,” about a Sikh family tiffany and co caught up in the xenophobic aftermath of 9/11, will screen as part of the Spinning Wheel Film Festival of Sikhthemed cinema Feb. 3. Raz will attend a Q&A session after the screening.

The all-day event, to be held on the campus of Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., features 13 films, including a morning program of films for kids, a silent auction of Sikh art, and discussions with filmmakers.

This is the second year that the festival is being held in Northern California, and is co-sponsored by the Bay Area Spinning Wheel coordinating committee, the Chardi Kala Sikh Community Center and Stanford’s Satrang Sikh Student Association.

“Last year’s successful event was nearly sold out, and this year’s is expected to reach full capacity based on a stellar lineup of innovative films,” said a spokesperson.

Among the films to be screened are “Who Do you Think You Are?”, a biography of Gurinder Chadha; “Amu”; Tami Yeager’s “A Dream in Doubt,” a documentary about the hate-crime murder of Rana Singh Sodhi of Arizona; “Saka Sirhind,” an animated tale about the lives of Guru Gobind Singh’s two young sons, pendants Fateh Singh and Zoravar Singh; “All Roads Lead to Here”; “Mission Aceh – Global Sikhs”; “Gatka I – The Experimentation” and “Grurdeep S. Bains.”

According to the organizers, last year’s festival drew not only a large audience of Bay Area Sikhs and their families, who learned about it from their neighbors, gurudwaras, and word of mouth from Spinning Wheel festivals in other cities, but also attracted non-Sikhs from Stanford and Silicon Valley.

Refreshments will be available for sale during the all-day event, which runs 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information or to buy tickets, visit www.bayareawheel.com or call (650) 274-8106.
