A Plum man remains in Westmoreland County Prison after being charged with burglarizing $25,000 worth of tiffany jewelry from a Penn Township store in August.

John Scafuri, of 2044 E. Holiday Park Drive, was charged Jan. 23 with burglary, criminal conspiracy, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief for the Aug. 16 burglary of Valmax Jewelers in the Penn Crossing Shopping Plaza.

Police were called to the store around 5:30 a.m. when a burglar alarm sounded and found the front-door window broken, according to the criminal complaint filed by Penn Township police and Westmoreland County detectives,

Police said five jewelry cases were smashed and numerous pieces of tiffany bracelets were taken. A witness told police two men ran out of the store and into a vehicle.

The criminal complaint stated Scafuri told his girlfriend that he was involved in a jewelry store robbery and showed her the jewelry. He told police he and another man put on masks, smashed out the window and took jewelry from glass cases they shattered with a hammer.

Penn Township police said additional arrests are pending.

Bond for Scafuri was set at $25,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled Feb. tiffany bangles 10 before Penn Township District Judge Helen Kistler.
